The Fund operates as a business incubator specialising in assisting Black small holder farmers to
actively participate in the value chain of commercial A-grade beef production by providing and/or
facilitating affordable finance, contract growing opportunities, financial management, extension
services, on-farm mentorship, technical assistance, training and capacity building, and off-take
agreements.

Rationale for the AgriBEE Beef Fund:

The fund will lead to the following economic benefits:-

1. Creation of commercially viable and economically sustainable Black owned and managed farming enterprises supplying high quality A-grade beef;
2. Enable the Eastern Cape’s biggest abattoirs to secure and increase reliable local supply of grass-fed beef;
3. Introduction of a reliable local source of grass-fed A-grade beef;
4. Improvement of the quality of livestock in the Eastern Cape;
5. Creation of economic self-sustainability for the project participants; and
6. Increase the number of Black people participating in the commercial agricultural industry in line with the AgriBEE charter and the Broad-based Black Empowerment Act;
7. The establishment of this initiative will enable the Berlin Beef Group to secure and increase reliable local supply of grass-fed beef while introducing commercial black farmers into the mainstream agro-processing value chain;
8. The initiative will create sustainable jobs, create economic activity in a least developed province, create broad-based SME linkages, and create sustainable rural development initiative.
